Rudy Giuliani could 'possibly' be the next Director of National Intelligence, a spokeswoman for Donald Trump said Tuesday.
Kellyanne Conway, a transition official, said she spent time with Giuliani on Sunday at Trump's Bedminister, New Jersey, property. The president-elect retreated to the golf course for meetings over the weekend.
'It's not up to the mayor. It's the president-elect,' Conway said on Morning Joe, responding to an NBC News report disclosing Giuliani's consideration for the soon-to-be vacant post.
Morning Joe hosts Mika Brzezinksi and Joe Scarborough teased Conway and suggested that Giuliani would decide which cabinet position he's getting.
A vice chair of Trump's transition team, Giuliani has been looked at for a number of cabinet positions, including secretary of state - an appointment Trump has yet to announce.
Conway told the MSNBC duo, 'I'm absolutely sure who will make the final decision.'
'The mayor will make the final decision?' Scarborough joked.
Smiling, Conway said, 'The president-elect, as well as it should be, with input from the vice president-elect.'
Giuliani was tight-lipped about his conversations with Trump as he left a meeting this morning.
'I’m not commenting on anything that went on upstairs. I was really here more in my capacity as vice chairman of the transition committee than I was on my behalf,' he told the press pack camped out in the lobby of Trump Tower. 'It had more to do with other candidates and other issues.'
Those discussions are 'private,' Giuliani said, and 'confidential.'
'Anything having to do with them, having to do with me, is between me, the transition team and the president elect.'
The former mayor of New York wouldn't say whether he's interested in replacing James Clapper as national intelligence director.
