The Chile example is a very important one for us to understand, and it is critical to look at U.S. trade policy in the context of underlying economic conditions.

Chile has one of the most open trade policies in South America, and yet it has enjoyed a strong growth in trade-related industries because it maintains domestic economic policies that make an attractive place to do business. It is also a key player in the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

What we are seeing here in the U.S. over the last few decades is a conflict between two different visions of international trade: the "European" vision that is very protective, and the "Asian" vision that is very open. Not coincidentally, the European vision tends to dominate the economy of Atlantic countries in South America, while the Asian vision dominates the Pacific coast of South America.

Despite all of his campaign rhetoric, I am sure Donald Trump will tread very, very carefully before adopting a trade policy in the U.S. that really tends to promote the stagnation (and even outright institutionalized socialism) we've seen in countries like Argentina and Venezuela.

Wow. I knew Trump was going to do great things, but he is already over performing, and it isn’t even his first day on the job. He is going to shame the nasty, lying, alphabet media into irrelevance by his work ethic. Killing them with kindness, as they say.

I read Trump’s Art of the Deal last week. It is basically playing out in every aspect of his campaign and now presidency. It’s amazing.

Chile is a good example of an economic miracle.
The Chicago Boys knew what they were doing.

If Trump follows them we could experience the same
Miracle and Arnold Harberger would win the
Nobel Prize in economics.
