The gave 500 million kr, not $500 million USD. With the exchange rate over the past 78 years it works out to be about $84 million USD, almost 1/10th of a billion USD. It is not chump change but it's not quite that extreme. The Nowegians were buying something for their money.

The giveaway was that the money was not filed under development aid, but under political strategic investments.

Obvious corruption.

At least it got our former PM (probably) the post as Nato chief.
