I was in high school too, a bit younger than you and knew of NOBODY, not student, not teacher, not parent who held Castro in "awe" at all. OTOH, yes, it was very quickly known/seen that Castro was nothing but a blood thirsty dictator and worse than Batista ever was.

My feeling is he let power get to his head and pervert whatever ideals he held.

Absolute power corrupts and corrupts absolutely.

No person can be trusted not to abuse power without checks and balances.

The Cuban Revolution is an instructive lesson on what to expect when people begin destroying their own country supposedly for its own good.

Hi, nopardons. In my hometown of left-wing liberals, several parents allowed their teenagers to go work in the canebrakes of Cuba around 67-69. Stupid then, stupid now.

He was held in ‘awe’ when he over threw Batista....he has been held in awe by the left forever

Never understood how we never invaded and got rid of him

after the breakup of the Soviet Union
