A big "Hell no!" to John Bolton.

Trump can't "drain the swamp" if he appoints senior administration officials who have been living in its fetid stench for the last 30+ years.

Why do we think he is the right person for the job.

Why do WE ...? Interesting way to ask a question as it suggest a high degree of group think.

the only obvious choice, John Bolton.
Though he was subtle about it, John Bolton was not exactly a supporter of Trump's policies before the nomination. It was only after the nomination that he got on board.

“The new Secretary’s first job will be cleaning all the seditious deadwood out of Foggy Bottom.”

easier said than done. Most are career foreign service officers with civil service job protections.

FWIW Rich Lowry over at NR theorizes that Team Trump is trying to get Romney to withdraw his nomination. (And he thinks Romney would be a poor match for the job.)

Bolton would also advocate too much interventionist military action.

That is what I like about the Rudy oick. He also has been advising on security issues worldwide through his consulting firm. A couple of those clients may have been unsavory and the question is whether he could get approved.

Mitt Romney should stick to what he knows: running Olympic games and being an extremely liberal governor of a failed Northeastern state.

Doesn’t *ANY*one in the FGOP remember “Romneycare?”

I guess next we’ll hear how Newt has “gone rogue” too?

He wasn’t near as diplomatic in his comments as was Kellyanne.

I am not a group thinker. I am only opening the question up to anyone who has a good answer. I don’t understand why his name is being put forward other than, he wants the job.

If you like your John Kerry kind of diplomacy, you can keep your John Kerry type of diplomacy.

America has let the commies at the UN kick us around for far too long.

We NEED a fighter.

Yep. The press still has not realized they are dealing with a guerilla fighter, and a successful one at that.

WTF does that have to do with what I've posted here?

I find it hard to believe that the number of qualified people for that position who aren't hampered by a career as an inside-the-Beltway figure must number in the hundreds.

I'll re-post an item from a couple of weeks ago that is applicable to this thread ...

Any interview process for a Trump cabinet member -- especially Secretary of State -- should include the following steps:

1. Have you ever served as a lobbyist for a foreign government or a corporation domiciled outside the U.S.? If YES, go to Step 4. If NO, go to Step 2.

2. Please list all non-profit organizations where you have either been employed or had an affiliation or leadership role as board member, advisor, etc.

3. Have any of the organizations you listed in Step 2 derived any income from foreign governments or from any corporations domiciled outside the U.S.? If YES, go to Step 4. If your answer is NO, please provide audited financial statements for every one of these organizations for the last 25 years, including an itemized list of all sources of income and revenue for each organization. We'll get back to you within the next 60 days after we do a thorough background check and verify the accuracy of the information you have provided.

4. Please take a hike and find a job somewhere else. You may qualify for employment with the following organization:

The Clinton Family Foundation
c/o Hillary Rodham Clinton
United States Disciplinary Barracks
Fort Leavenworth, KS 66027

I suspect this will weed out a lot of inside-the-Beltway people, including John Bolton.

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON once advocated getting out of the Middle East on the Lee Rodgers show. We don’t need the oil. Europe can come to us or the Russians.
