GATLINBURG Firefighters across the state scrambled to douse the wildfires raging through East Tennessee Tuesday morning, and the Tennessee National Guard made plans to dump water onto the flames from a helicopter.
Emergency responders have struggled to make a dent into the fires that have devastated Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and surrounding areas in Sevier County since high winds helped the flames spread Monday evening
Article continues, "Hillbilly Golf, major hotels, a good portion of Regan Drive and countless other businesses and homes were destroyed in the blaze that had firefighters working throughout the night.
"The center of Gatlinburg looks good for now," said Newmansville Volunteer Fire Department Lt. Bobby Balding. "It's the apocalypse on both sides (of downtown)."

Praying for Tennessee and all the people affected by this.
Prayers for what many call God’s country, but one thing is for sure. It is a beautiful part of the United States.
Prayers up.
Prayers for our countrymen in that beautiful area.
I searched the TV for ANY reporting on this last night and NOTHING. Then the MSM wonders why they’re irrelevant. Lots of news and updates on twitter #Gatlinburg. So sad. Lots of prayers needed. I did read last night that the Aquarium housing 10,000 animals had been spared, but that may have changed since the fires are still raging.
Arson is a jihadi thing, now.
Maybe they've learned that the fire was caused by Jihadists, BLM, Occupy or some other "protected" class, and are desperately seeking a way to keep that information unshared. Or maybe it's just a case of the "flyover" syndrome.
We rented several cabins a few miles outside of Gatlinburg for a family reunion over Columbus Day. The article said all of the cabins in Black Bear Falls (which is where we stayed) were gone.
Lots of good vids and info here;
Any word on how this fire got started?
My bet is on BOTH.
I don’t know but it sounds like it is totally out of control. Over 100 buildings burned.
I’m sick over this. Like so many others from Tennessee, I have a lifetime of memories in that town and in the National Park. All three of my wife’s siblings live in heavily wooded areas not too far from Gatlinburg. I’m hopeful they avoid fire.
It looked like a band of heavy rain was moving through the area last night. Hopefully that helped.
Drudge didn’t have anything about this until this morning and it wasn’t headline news on the report.
One of the photos had a restaurant I ate at destroyed.
I found a report where the Governor is quoted, “Gov. Bill Haslam vowed Monday to pursue the arsonists believed to be responsible for setting wildfires across the state “with everything we can.”
I am too. My grandparents brought me there all the time as a kid, and I continued that with my children. Many wonderful family memories.
If they were set and it is muslims this was the dumbest state, not to mention region, in the union to do this in.
Tennessee is flyover....
Insignificant in the eyes of the media.
