Kefauver was the VP candidate in 1956. IIRC, Adlai let the convention decide so it became a contest between Estes Kefauver and a first-term senator from Massachusetts, John F. Kennedy.

All I remember of the 1956 election is seeing "I like Ike" bumper stickers and my father telling me he liked Ike. I wasn't aware that there was another candidate running.

We must be about the same age. Your memory is similar to mine. Stevenson ran a lackluster campaign, I read later, because his heart wasn’t really in it.
