Banerian filed it with the Bloomfield Hills Police Department, and they are investigating. I trust you understand that the Bloomfield Hills Police Department is a local entity and the Department of Justice is a federal entity.

Regarding Banerian, I don't believe there is a prosecutable crime here. Banerian has been telling reporters that he was "threatened" for the past two weeks. It is difficult to explain the delay in reporting the alleged "threat".

In order for a threat to be prosecutable, it must be a "true threat". "True threats" exclude threats made in jest (e.g. saying "I'm going to kill you" when you find out you've been the butt of a practical joke) and crude, offensive political statements (see: Watts v. United States). Given that Banerian spent two weeks making political points about the alleged threat before reporting it to police, it seems Banerian recognized the alleged threat as a political statement and not a "true threat" against his safety.
