Why weren’t the absentee ballots counted to begin with?

When it says provisional votes are added, it does not mean ALL of them but just the ones which can be verified as being correct and legal.

We did hear about it earlier. This was posted on FR 2 days ago and tweeted out by the expert on vote counting on Twitter hours before that.

Dave Wasserman @Redistrict Dec 1

Philadelphia, PA: per @DecisionDeskHQ, 21k new Clinton votes, 3k new Trump votes. Clinton’s lead up to 2.54 million: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/133Eb4qQmOxNvtesw2hdVns073R68EZx4SfCnP4IGQf8/edit#gid=19

Not one judgement has gone against the Dems in terms of the recounts.
*************************************************************
Not true. WI stopped the forced hand recount and a judge in Alleghany Cty PA also refused a hand recount as per article on Thurs.

No, he’d be at 260, her at 278.

PA is unquestionably now one of THE 2 most important states in the 2020 election (along with FL). Trump’s margin was slightly bigger in PA than in MI and WI. And he can afford to lose MI and WI and still win in 2020 if he keeps PA.

He can even afford to lose AZ’s 11 EVs in 2020 if he keeps PA (which would cause an EV tie broken by the house). A very underreported story this time is how heavily AZ shifted towards the Dems from 2012...a 5-point shift, the 4th biggest in the country after UT, CA and TX. If that trend continues, Trump’s 3-point winning margin in AZ will evaporate in 2020 and he will lose the state.

However, MN represents a potential new pick-up of 10 EVs for Trump in 2020 since he almost won it this time with little campaign effort put in by either party.

How PRECISELY would they do that? Ae you aware that in a recount only PREVIOUSLY recorded votes are counted? The vote totals changed because the votes “found” on Thurs/Fri were ballots already there, these in include mail in which are only accepted up until I believe 5 days after election day, and provisional ballots which those already there on election day but which for some reason such as no signature, improper precinct, etc were put aside until later when they can be checked. Once verified those which are IK are included in total and the others are not.

The reason PA was called for Trump without these ballots, all of which were already known to exist is because even if EVERY one of them went for Clinton, highly unlikely there were not enough to overcome the lead Trump had. AP, the gold standard as far as calling a race, will not do so unless it is not possible even after all ballots including mail in and provisional are counted and if those additional ballots can change the winner.

Yes he did receive several thousand but the NET difference was 22k for Clinton and because it was Philly they were counting the % were within the averages for the democrat.

“Not a chance that this will happen in the future” (Disallow absentee voting)

It can happen by modifying the rules. Absentee or mail in ballots should be allowed only with PROOF the voter is out of the country or State or has perhaps a medical reason for being unable to get to the voting location.

Can’t do that because a “recount” is just that, a redoing the count of those ballots already counted.. There would have to be a mistake in the transcribed totals to have any effect. That is why the usual change in the count is always only a handful of votes, even 1000 would be HUGE and so with a 50,000 vote lead the task would be daunting as long as there are watchers standing right there when the recount is done.

Provisional and absentee ballots were not counted before the winner was called because even if ALL of them went for Clinton (throughout the State) it would not have been enough to change the results.

You're quite correct--it was a law: The National Voter Registration Act of 1993, commonly known as Motor Voter. A cursory glance at the Wiki-article reveals no court challenges. I expect it followed earlier federal efforts to eliminate poll taxes, etc., so as you suggest there seems ample precedent for federal involvement in state elections. Thanks to both of you for the education.

Perhaps something good will come of the lefts fascination with recounts and the popular vote

First, to build support for mandated changes in Federal election laws, have the FEC along with the FBI investigate and prove the massive illegal alien vote that we all know occurred. Prosecute the organizers, and flag the illegal voters for deportation.

Amend the Motor Votor law to comply with the Real ID act.

Set national standards for early voting based on the Equal Protection clause. I suggest allowing early voting to start on the Saturday before. Two weekend days, followed by two weekdays are sufficient time for anyone who wants to vote. There is more, but essentially what I'm advocating is the Republicans should use Stein and her new BFF Hill to finally strengthen voting laws for Federal elections.

The same way they got Lautenberg a senate seat in NJ. Get one of their judges to change the law!

Okay numskulls this is what is going on. The delay in asking for the recount was to enable the Clinton machine to have time to cross reference the people who voted against those that didn’t so the could manufacture seemingly valid votes. Hillary Clinton is going to be declared the winner of the election that is certain. Within three weeks from today my fear is will be engulfed in a civil war...

Keep in mind in NJ, where I live, both Houses of the Congress are strongly Democrat. Being so they would have no interest in a challenge.

Thank you. With all the talk and postings of HRC getting all of the votes I didn’t see anyone mentioning Donald Trump.

I have always said....

One Day. One ID. One Vote.

Poll tested and voter approved.

I guess now we need to revamp the recount laws to prevent this situation where two losers can hold up several states certs based on nothing.

That is the way it should be.

But what about down ballot races? They don’t count my vote on, say, a local bond measure because the presidential race margin is too large?
