For example, a cousin of mine and her husband — both California liberals — live in Paris near where the Bataclan attack occurred. Delightful and genuinely kind people, they rebuffed my brother’s warning on a visit that the Muslim terror and street crime problem was going to get worse in the months and years to come. “On no, we have to treat them better so they realize that we mean them well” was my cousin’s answer. Mercifully, she and her husband are considering a move to Switzerland based on work considerations.

That's my whole point. Oakland undoubtedly has some excellent fire, plumbing, and electrical codes, codes that were blatantly and repeatedly violated by the owner and the horde of irresponsible, filthy, destructive, hippies that infested the premises. It's just another version of the ongoing auto-massacre of and by blacks in Chicago. Each could be stopped/prevented by aggressive, determined, enforcement of existing laws and regulations by responsible local, state, and Federal government.
Nobody; they sold few, and many of those weren’t developed (the buyers violated the agreements). Blacks don’t want to live in Newark; when they get the means they leave. Newark was trying to rebuild a tax base with buyers, and blacks weren’t taking.

They were basically living in an empty warehouse - and I read that twenty people paid rent there. They brought 20 consumers into a building that had none, and as weird as they look they were less dangerous than superpredators. Cities across the country want to set up these “artist colonies” for that very reason; they are trying to bring any commerce into areas that have none. Just having people prepare their coffees and make their meals each day is an economic boost in a dying area.
