I listened to what Trump said about China and trade in his speeches, and thus have some notion of why this pick is not a no-brainer for him. If he wanted a traditional diplomat with broad knowledge and excellent background, John Bolton would be the one. If he wanted to reward a loyalist or former rival (like Obama did), it would have been Rudy or Romney. Trump is clearly looking for something else, and I beleive familiarity with China and experience in negotiating trade deals are high on the list of criteria. If that means Trump picks Huntsman, fine - I trust Trump who clearly has more information than I do.
I think it’s gonna be Bolton. Trump has brilliantly laid media rabbit trails around Petraus, Romney, and Guliani to hold off the msm storm troopers from even finding a scent of the real pick.
Announcing Bolton at the last minute denies the enemy time it would have otherwise had to jin up the smear machine.
