They have to connect the cable to your drop. Also, they make it so you have to set up your router/cable box to match your account in their database.

Not in California.

Both my sons are Silicon Valley techies and they have over the air TV, their own modem-router and private servers. All legal.

Don’t they pay an internet connection charge to the cable company? I understand them owning the modem-router and having their own private servers, but you’ve got to connect to the pipe somehow.
