Al Gore meets with Ivanka Trump and her father and why I am NOT worried

Many conservatives are worried that Al Gore ascended the elevators at Trump Tower and met first with Ivanka Trump, and the President-elect:

“I had a lengthy and very productive session with the president-elect. It was a sincere search for areas of common ground,” Gore told reporters after spending about 90 minutes at Trump Tower in Manhattan during the lunch hour Monday. “I had a meeting beforehand with Ivanka Trump. The bulk of the time was with the president-elect, Donald Trump. I found it an extremely interesting conversation, and to be continued, and I'm just going to leave it at that.”

Donald Trump’s approach to his presidency seems to include talking to former and current opponents. Far from inhabiting a bubble, he makes sure to hear the views of others. And Gore has plenty of connections to the world of high tech (he is on Apple’s Board), a community that now realizes it backed the weak horse in the election, and now has few connections to the incoming administration. That is an unnatural vacuum.

It is far too soon to panic. Sharing and even amplifying my calming views, Russell Cook, one of the leading debunkers of claims that critics of global warming theory are in the pay of oil companies, makes three critical observations about the meeting:

The only possible positive outcome of this is if we discover they are discussing terms for Gore’s departure and permanent exile from the United States.

I’m sure Ivanka would be fine so long as there was some else in the room with her and the sex-starved poodle.

Watching his facial expression and him stating that it was “an extremely interesting conversation” I’m betting he was not happy! Haha!

It kinda scares me to read that Ivanka is on board with this global warming stuff. Maybe just a rumor?

At first I was a little puzzled why this meeting took place but after some thought I can see some advantages.

If you take the conservation part of environmentalism by itself, it’s a noble goal aligned with our responsibility to be good stewards of the environment.

Ideally, striking a balance which conserves our environment while not burdening business would be a worthy goal. That doesn’t mean you can’t use the resources we have.

So how to accomplish this? I can see a few ways:

- Repatriating manufacturing which is occurring in countries with lax environmental protections to the USA will be beneficial to our economy, people and environment.

- Rush has mentioned this but there is a free market incentive for companies to be good stewards of the environment. As incomes rise, consumers naturally want cleaner air and water and will spend their money promoting responsible companies.

- If electric vehicles are to be our future, we need abundant, dirt cheap power. This opens the conversation to new, modern, nuclear power. This creates construction jobs, requires skilled workers to operate, and reduces energy costs which has a net positive effect on people and business. It also reduces our dependency on foreign energy and can reduce our consumption of fossil fuels.

There is a path I see where you can start peeling off a segment of environmental advocates who are interested in common sense solutions. This has the effect of increasing the support under your tent while pushing the people left in the movement further to the extremes.

Perhaps Trump sees an advantage in growing his support by appealing to the subset within groups who would be receptive to a common sense proposal. He could do the same with abortion advocates (most think some restrictions are ok).

He won’t get all of them, but whoever is left in these advocacy groups is further marginalized.

Ivanka and her dad have played good cop bad cop for years. Once he’s in office another will take that roll. She knows how to play the game to get the poor victim set up for her dad. And they never realize they’ve been charmed.

Worth posting here:

News item: Trump meets twice with Mitt Romney, dangling the position of secretary of state to one of his most severe critics in the GOP nomination battle.

News item: Trump meets today with Al Gore to talk about climate change.

From Machiavelli’s Prince, Book XX:

The prince will always be to win over to himself with the greatest ease those men who in the beginning of a principality had been enemies, and who are of such quality that to maintain themselves they need somewhere to lean. They are all the more forced to serve him faithfully as they know it is more necessary for them to cancel out with deeds the sinister opinion one has taken of them. And so the prince always extracts more use from them than from those who, while serving him with too much security, neglect his affairs.

And since the matter requires it, I do not want to leave out a reminder to princes who have newly taken a state through internal support within it, that they consider well what cause moved those who supported them to support them. If it is not natural affection toward them but only because those supporters were not content with that state, he will be able to keep them his friends with trouble and great difficulty, because it is impossible for him to make them content. And while reviewing well the cause of this, with examples drawn from ancient and modern things, he will see that it is much easier to gain as friends to himself men who were content with the state beforehand, and therefore were his enemies, than those who, because they were not content with it. became friends and gave him support in seizing it.

No excuse for meeting with this alarmist idiotic hypocritical jackass. He was so far out of the power mainstream that it was a bad move to give him even an appearance of legitimacy.

“it’s a noble goal aligned with our responsibility to be good stewards of the environment.” +1

That is Conservationism(is that a word?). That is working to protect the status, but, not putting the environment above the good of humanity. Being a Good Stewart is a Great thing.

Environmentalism is putting the environment as the only good.
No room for humans in an environmentalist world.

Some of the concern trolls are putting Gore’s “common ground” statement into Trump’s mouth - hope they start actually thinking so they don’t all commit suicide....
