Henry J Kaiser was a self taught industrialist millionaire who had operations that spanned the United States beginning roughly around the WWI timeframe.
IIRC Kaiser got his start in building roads and became rich in that industry.
Kaiser became interested in building ships, so he applied himself and his wealth in that direction. During FDR’s Lend-Lease program to help the UK defend itself against Nazi Germany before USA’s entry into WWII, Kaiser built hundreds of Liberty ships out of dockyards in Richmond, California.
Kaiser Foundation is an outgrowth of the health program for Kaiser’s employees. It is viewed as an outgrowth of Kaiser’s concern for his own employees.
Kaiser had operations and holdings in many states so it is perhaps not too surprising that some Kaiser holdings were in Hawaii.
As to Kaiser himself, I have never heard of any scandal associated with him. In fact, in the SF Bay, most people seem to regard him as fairly boring (as millionaires go). Since Kaiser was very prominent in relatively recent history, any scandal associated with him would have to have been very well hidden if anything existed at all.
IMHO the Kaiser angle could be a dead end...
Sorry, Kaiser Permanente is the outgrowth of Kaiser’s employee health program, not Kaiser Foundation. Supposedly, Kaiser Foundation is separate from Kaiser Permanente.
A separate Kaiser Family Foundation puts out a lot of health related research. IMHO they seem on the liberal side and IIRC tend to favor Obamacare in their policies, though IIRC they claim to be politically neutral.
Both entities receive a fair amount of regular scrutiny from news sources due to connections with health care (present) and industry (relatively recent history).
