Report: IDF strikes near Damascus

Arab media outlets have reported that the IDF targets inside Syria near the capital city of Damascus early Wednesday morning.

The incident has yet to be confirmed by Israeli sources, and the IDF has refused to comment on the report.

According to the claims, large explosions were heard around the El-Mezzeh airbase just outside of Damascus.

No casualties were reported in the attack.

A Syrian state media service report by SANA claimed the attack was made by land-based missile batteries, with no reference to Israeli air units.

"At 3:00 a.m. (0100 GMT), the Israeli enemy fired several surface-to-surface missiles from inside occupied territory."

All Israeli news services like “I24” and “Times of Israel” have reported this.

Social media from Syria and a Lebanese channel reported on the 415am local time attack with Syrian State TV saying it was an “Israeli attack”.

There was another similar incident in the last week.....

The Israelis are probably just taking out targets that they don’t want exploding over their airspace.

The few times the Israelis have hit the Syrians during their Civil War have been very specific responses to things the Isreaelis regarded as security threats to them.

Over all, the Isreaelis are playing it cool, and playing it wisely.

That’s the official word from Israel as to their purposes in launching attacks on Syria but timing of the recent attacks including today’s seems very interesting.

Debka, the Israeli intelligence-propaganda site speaks of a ‘go it alone’ policy in Syria in a story posted in the last week.

Israel is ‘going it alone’ because the US and other powers are not doing anything in Syria right now to stop Assad.

Yes Arutzs Sheva is Israeli an Israeli news station.
In post 5 I posted another link to the story on the Behold Israel , the guy that runs the site is a Major in the IDF he wouldn’t post it if it wasn’t confirmed and unless he got clearance to post it.

IDF almost never confirms anything they do for a reason :)

I have been following this closely. I would absolutely concur with your statement. Israel wants no part of the Syrian Civil War but they wish to be left alone.

It is in the strategic interest of Israel that the civil war in Syria continue. It keeps Hezbollah tied down and getting killed, and away from Israel’s northern border.

They have been staying out of the fight .
They only surgically remove the things that are a serious danger to their people.

I agree completely.
The muslims kill constantly , it’s part of the madness that is islam . As long as they are killing each other though they are burning their weapons and not using them against Israel.

Israel does not want to see Assad overthrown. Anything that replaces him will be much harder to deal with. (More suicidal when it comes to dealing with Israel.) So far, the Israelis have only hit Hamas and convoys carrying certain types of weapons that can strike deep into Israel, like rockets and ROV’s. You can bet this attack was based on information that Hamas was about to move some asset to Lebanon or use it from inside Syria.

Interestingly, Hamas and the Russians are allies. But Russia allows Israel to hit Hamas targets without sending up interceptors to engage the IAF. Apparently, also, the much feared Russian anti-air missiles have not been used against the IAF. This must be a very uncomfortable dance Russia is doing.
