There's a hunger problem on America's college campuses
CNN ^ | December 6, 2016 | Katie Lobosco

Montclair State University's food pantry is tucked away down a maze of hallways in the student center. Like the hunger problem on campus itself, the pantry is not quite out in the open. It opened on the New Jersey college's campus in April, after administrators started hearing from students who said they were hungry and didn't have enough money for food. They surveyed students, finding that more than half said they or someone they know experiences "food insecurity" -- the lack of access to affordable, nutritious food. On one Thursday in December, 33 students visited the food pantry, taking what they need to help make ends meet. They left with bread, cereal, milk, spaghetti, canned vegetables, as well as personal items like shampoo and soap.

Maker of miniature violins are making a killing since election day. So the traditional college staple of remagen noodles and left over pizza are not good enough anymore? Notice how they define "food insecurity"; lack of access to affordable, nutritious food. So I guess argula is too expensive for these snowflakes.

These students who can’t afford to eat: what do you suppose they have $200/month cell phone bills, drink at least a six-pack of beer each week, and haven’t spent less that $80 on a pair of jeans since they were pre-teens?

I remember when I played football in college (small college) that the cafeteria gave the same portions of food to us ballplayers as they gave to a 110 lb. coed...

We had to find extra food ourselves...

Story is in no way related to the “Trump Will Reform Food Stamps” story that broke earlier today.

I heard stories like this back when I was a student over twenty years ago. Many of them should maybe have taken a year off to work and save more money for university/college and thus avoided this kind of problem.

I was pleasantly surprised that the report included the rising cost of tuition as a reason.
Can’t meal plans be rolled into student loans?

Room and board at a college usually includes a meal plan.

I practically lived on ramen noodles and peanut butter in grad school to avoid paying the cafeteria fees I couldn’t afford. It’s kind of amazing what a twenty something body can thrive on. These flower petals need to quit whining.

I think most of us were hungry in college or at some other point in our lives due to budgetary constraints. I don't recall bitching about it.

I did learn a thing or two about edible plants though.
