A KIWI tourist says she was detained in Kazakhstan after immigration officials refused to believe New Zealand was a country, insisting it was actually a state of Australia.
Chloe Phillips-Harris, 28, arrived at Kazakhstan’s Almaty Airport in May after being assured by the New Zealand embassy she would be able to enter the Central Asian country on her Kiwi passport.
But officials at the airport told her she wouldn’t be able to enter the country without an Australian passport, the New Zealand Herald reported.
“I landed in Kazakhstan on the last flight of the night, and I got to an immigration booth and they asked me for an Australian passport, and told me I couldn’t come in without an Australian passport,” Ms Phillips-Harris told the Herald.
“They said New Zealand’s clearly a part of Australia.”

Just as Kazakhstan is part of Russian, I’d have said.
That would have been an excellent response. Unfortunately, I can all too easily conceive of this happening at a US port of entry.

The immigration official got his job because he is the third cousin of the second wife of the eight son of the driver of the President’s dog groomer.
Why would anyone choose Kazakhstan over New Zealand?

However geographically it is a series of islands...
North Island, South Island, West Island (Oh no that’s called Australia), Stewart island, Hen and Chicken Islands, Cook islands, Fiji, etc
and is part of the Polynesia..
But although there is no typical country land mass, New Zealand is still considered a country...
New Zealand is not and never has been a state/province of Australia...
It never was intended to ever be...
While Australia was to continue to only be a penal colony, New Zealand was from the start a settled country...
I used to have a New Zealand passport...no mention of Australia...
The ignorance is strong in that one...
It might have been the officials “subtle” way of asking for a bribe.

I’m trying to remember the details but it involved ticket sellers in Atlanta refusing an order to New Mexico because it was disallowed to sell tickets outside the USA.

The customs guys pulled this chick out of line because she had what looked like an enormous brick of hash under her coat.
Then the stamping agent stamped my passport 50 times just to be an ass.
