Don’t need term limits for congress. Do away with congressional retirements, health care perks, as citizens they stay subject to the laws they pass,
Do away with their ability to insider trade. When they can no longer enrich themselves at the taxpayers ( citizens ) expense they will not stay in DC long.
Unfortunately, there is no way to do any of that stuff. Congress simply is not going to vote for any limit on its power and perks.
I am reminded of the old story about the mice who were afraid of the cat. They finally settled on the brilliant idea of putting a bell on the cat. Which they soon realized was impossible.
“When they can no longer enrich themselves at the taxpayers ( citizens ) expense they will not stay in DC long.”
But you have the same problem here as you do with term limits. The Congress will NEVER vote themselves “off the island” or vote to cut their elegant perks. The are, in reality, no different than the Russian elites under Communism. They all have their “dachas” paid for by us serfs.
Right. Too many will be retiring and getting all these perks. They will not have served enough to be entitled to these things.
The cream will rise to the top; only those who are truly willing to SERVE will stick around.
