Russian hackers were unsuccessful in their attempts to breach the Republican National Committee (RNC), The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.
U.S. officials briefed on the attempted intrusion told the publication that the alleged hackers used the same methods that allowed them to hack the Democratic National Committee (DNC) but were ultimately thwarted by the RNC cybersecurity systems.

My assumption is something like this: hacking is illegal in Russia, Russian gov is corrupt, hacking groups operate within Russia, they are profit driven, Russia accepts this so long as Russians are not targetted and that useful intel is fed back to Russian agencies.
Now to research to see how this hypothesis plays out.
You are right.
The media doesn't accept that the emails were leaked, believing nobody could be that dissatisfied with the DNC, Podesta and Clinton. AFAIK they've pushed the 'hacked' meme and nothing else.
...can we get them to finally start talking about the scandals contained WITHIN them?
If the media didn't talk about what was in the emails before do you really think anything is going to change their behavior now? It's right in their faces and they say "I don't see anything".
Prior to the election, the media said that the public should not look at the emails, the media would review them for us. A month later they still have not talked about what they read within them.
Credit card numbers.
A month from now they still won't be talking about anything they might have read in them.
