So your calling me archaic?
I was taught that it could be spelled both ways, the same for tomatoe. So was the better half of my partnership. She was raised in SoCal and I was raised in NoVa.
Either way Quail went they would have said he was wrong.

Looks like a deliberate statement of fact to me.
We’ve been unpresidented for eight years.

I spelled country as "cuntry" on purpose; fyi, to make a point and because the Chinese are a bunch of, well you know... 😊. I get into trouble posting from my phone sometimes though. It's very easy to screw things up with the touchscreen keyboard.

He didn't misspell it. That wouldn't make sense. This is a well-educated and very intelligent man:
Trump was born and raised in the Queens borough of New York City and received a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1968.
In 1971, he became president of his family's real estate and construction firm, Elizabeth Trump & Son, which was later renamed The Trump Organization. During his business career, Trump has built, renovated or managed numerous office towers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses.
He owned the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants from 1996 to 2015, and has lent the use of his name to brand various products. Trump has hosted The Apprentice, a reality television series on NBC, from 2004 to 2015.
As of 2016, Forbes listed Trump as the 324th wealthiest person in the world (113th in the United States) with a net worth of $4.5 billion.

Quayle's "potatoe" gaffe came from a cue-card prepared by a teacher, and he assumed it was correct. Actually, I think "potatoe" is a correct albeit archaic spelling for "potato."******************
I agree with you about the cue-card mistake. Quayle was very likely simply attempting to be polite. However, I don't believe that "potatoe" is an archaic spelling for "potato". My understanding is that "potatoes" is plural for "potato". I may be wrong.

To be honest I thought it was an intentional play on words that has backfired.

I agree 100% with you.
I thought it was intentional, too.

OK. So I read the tweet to my phone's memo app (Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge). It came out as
China steals United States Navy research drone international waters rips it out of the water and takes it to China an unprecedented Act.
So, let's see ...
- It missed the "in" before "international waters"
- It missed the unspoken dash after "international waters"
- It added "the" before "water", but that may have been my mistake
- It mishears "an" as "in"
- And ... drum roll ... it spells "unpresidented" as "unprecedented"!!
- It makes a gratuitous capitalization mistake on "Act"
Obviously, we have a ways to go before computers can be considered intelligent.
But, for the present, it's gotten to the point that talking is easier than keying, at least on phones.
