Top 15 Democratic presidential candidates in 2020

Democrats grappling with the shock of Hillary Clinton’s loss to Donald Trump are also beginning to turn their attention to 2020, and pondering who could defeat Trump as he vies for reelection.

Here are The Hill’s initial rankings of where the potential candidates stand.

1. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.)

How would the 2016 election have panned out had Warren challenged Clinton in the primary? That’s one of the great unknowables of Democratic politics. But now, there is little doubt that the Massachusetts senator is the leading contender for the 2020 nomination.

Warren, a former Harvard Law School professor, has been beloved by the left throughout her late-blooming political career, largely because of her no-punches-pulled attacks on banks and the financial industry. She got under Trump’s skin via Twitter during the 2016 campaign too.

The recent news that Warren will join the Senate Armed Services Committee in January has stoked speculation that she is looking to bolster her foreign policy and national security credentials in advance of a presidential run. Warren would be 71 by the time of the next election, but she is three years younger than Trump.

Trump will be 74 in 2020.

The presidency ages one but at age 70 he's got more energy and stamina than most 50 year olds.

“The man is leaving office more liked and respected than he has ever been. “

The man is despised by everyone not on the left. His approval rating like everything else is a work of fiction.

It's going to have to be Kamala Harris. It's almost like Obama with female plumbing and other enhancements.

They will think she can easily grab Obama's third term after an unfortunate 4-year interruption by an "illegitimate" President.

The rising stars in the Democrat party were aborted.

As we start to see the demographics rising, Democrats will burn themselves out as the amount of leftists who support abortion and have abortions will eliminate enough of them that they are no longer self-sustaining. We clean out some of the entrenched liberals in the university level and we’ll start seeing more and more conservative teachers, students, rising adults, etc. Only way they survive is to immigrate in new leftists or to brainwash them.

What is it with the trend of First Ladies being automatically considered for the presidency? People are watching too much "House of Cards."

Not that she should ever run but Melania would blow both Moochelle and Crooked Hillary away as president.

This has to be from the funny pages?

LOL! At the lot of them....

I know Kamala Harris has a few skeletons in her closet from her SF days. And from what people have told me, Booker has skeletons in his closet too from his days as Mayor.

Bern is 75 years old now - I doubt he will run. Same for Biden and Hillary.

Kaine is a comic. He’s like a clown.

Patrick is interesting. I thought he would have made a serious bid a few years ago.

It is not so much that the election is ramping up, but after having Obama trip up the Clinton machine to the point that it failed, one ought to probe the wreckage looking for a Democratic bench.

If I were placing a bet a this point it would be on Michael Rubens Bloomberg. That is what their navel gazing is going to produce. Democrats: “If we just had a billionaire to run against Trump we would win.” And oh yah, we will make believe he down with the white working man struggle, but supports BLM and higher taxes on the middle class. If it is one of the ones on the list, they will have to start raising money right after the first of the year. It will become apparent that none of them can raise enough money legally. Then watch who makes several trips to the middle east and china for the money that will be laundered into their accounts.

Like Obama, as a less than single term senator she would have little history for the electorate to judge he on. Given the chance at cobbling together women and minorities for historic firsts would make her a potentially tough candidate perfect for democrat race baiting and dividing the the electorate up and feed the us vs them narrative.
