America should not withdraw from the United Nations without first ensuring that the organization cannot retaliate.
Upon this, one has to remark that men ought either to be well treated or crushed, because they can avenge themselves of lighter injuries, of more serious ones they cannot; therefore the injury that is to be done to a man ought to be of such a kind that one does not stand in fear of revenge. Niccolò Machiavelli
The recent actions of the Obama administration and the UN Security Council have renewed calls for the United States to withdraw from the United Nations. The arguments for withdrawal are compelling and based on firm moral and practical considerations, but, so long as they leave the United Nations various organs intact, they will continue to wreak havoc in the world, unencumbered by our veto. American withdrawal will not reduce the United Nations mischief, but unleash it. Machiavelli addressed this when he wrote the passage quoted above, which can be summed up as, never do an enemy a minor injury.
The United Nations has two major organs that we must address. First there is the General Assembly, a vicious conglomeration of thuggish dictatorships, spineless social democracies and failing states. These countries unite only to attack the threats to their retention of power, or to deflect attention from how they wield it. This is why the vast majority of its condemnatory acts focus on the United States and Israel. The one good thing about the General Assembly is that it is utterly toothless; its resolutions carry no weight, and can be ignored without consequence. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Security Council.

If you have to worry about retaliation from an organization you no longer want to be a part of, then you shouldn’t have been a member of it to begin with.
After advocating for the US to leave the UN for decades, this has become a concern to me.
Obama proved last week how important our veto is.
We need to systematically destroy the UN, not just leave it.
That’s the most pussified article ever. We cant leave the UN unless we kill it, or it can hurt us? They have no power that we do not allow them to have over us. Never have, never will.
“America should not withdraw from the United Nations without first ensuring that the organization cannot retaliate.”
Yea, right. First pull any and all foreign aid to see if that starts to get their complete and undivided attention, right after we kick them out, defund it and demolish that horrible building into the east river.
Engineer a computer virus and on the day you leave wipe every hard drive on every UN owned computer.
If we tell the UN we no longer believe in or abide by any crap it puts out, what’s it gonna do - make resolutions telling us we need to give the Panama Canal away?
The UN is the putrid legacy of the old Leftist, Woodrow Wilson. We never should have been involved with this globalist boondoggle. We could have used the tens of billions of tax dollars saved to repair our roads and bridges, which would have been far more useful to the nation than the UN has been.
“We need to systematically destroy the UN, not just leave it.”

Start by pulling all US money out of it. That’ll destroy it if whether US is in it or not.
“If you have to worry about retaliation from an organization you no longer want to be a part of, then you shouldnt have been a member of it to begin with.”

Yup. Ditto that.
Retailiation with what paid for by whom?
Without US funding the UN dies. And it is a long over due death.
Here is my response to this nonsense:
If and when we withdraw from the UN, we simultaneously inform that body (in writing) and the rest of the world (verbally) that we will no longer be bound by any agreements that we concluded under the auspices of the UN, nor will we be subject to the authority of the UN or any of its departments or agencies. It should be ***specifically*** indicated that ANY attempt to force the US to adhere to any future UN measures will be met with the appropriate financial and/or military force.
End of this ridiculous story.
There is absolutely nothing the UN can do to harm the United States if we completely withdraw.
Abrogation of the founding Treaty.
Not even the permanent members of the Security Council would continue the charade.
No money and they become the League of Nations.
Without U.S. money and hospitality, the U.N. would not exist. They cannnot retaliate in any meaningful way, unless all of those counntries also want to forego our foreign aid...and that is next on the chopping block.
We do most of the fighting for the UN anyway. Who is going to come after us?
We are the creator of the United Nations.
Sounds like the mob!
