What will help the economy the most is when those age 50 or so get educated about buying “Made in the USA”. How long has it been since we’ve had a nationalist in the WH to promote that?

Besides the pro electric chevy Dolt pushers, i think the major Government Motors involvement IMHO/IIRC was to provide accounts to add the special sauce during campaign season.

Ford didn’t need to be “bailed out” - I’m going with the savvy option.

they’re willing to give Trump partial credit

Everyone else may be saying that but I didn't see that at the blurb at the Ford Corp. media page.  All I saw was:

Ford is adding 700 direct new U.S. jobs and investing $700 million during the next four years...   ...cancelling plans for the new plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

At least we can agree that Ford's not 'moving back' anything and there's no talk of shutting down any existing overseas ops.

The Ford CEO was on the news yesterday talking about the improved business climate and possible tax reforms as part of the reason for the decision. That’s got to be seen as a nod towards Trump.

Someone posted a comment that said that Ford makes little money on their economy cars. I don’t know if it is true, but I drive one, and I wish I hadnt bought it.

No car maker makes much on their economy cars. High fixed costs, mostly labor, and low mark-up. Some would probably get out of the market entirely if not for CAFE.

It's a bet Trump can make the country friendly to business, manufacturing and entrepreneurship. And in truth, if anyone can do it - it’s Trump.

tx fer the headsup. I didn't see any hat tip in the press releases but on TV they're bound to mention T & it makes sense to praise the govt's peace treaty w/ business.

As for tariffs, there's no way in hell Ford's got factories in Russia, Vietnam, and South Africa for cheap labor to make stuff for Americans --and my bet it's going to be pretty much the same thing for Mexico.

He says that protectionism is a tax that we wind up paying.

Hey, genius, when our country has an $800 billion yearly trade deficit with China, those implied tariff taxes are the least of our worries.

The Founding Fathers believed in reasonable tariffs to favor domestic businesses. It’s not that hard to figure out.
