Yes you can get there without going thru security.

You are only searched going to terminals. Areas to wait for people or picking up baggage is outside that search area.
Which works for me as i carry. Since you cant get to gates to meet or see people off anymore.
One nutjob doesnt mean we turn all airports into gun free zones everywhrere. But overreacting pols will use that excuse to do just that.
So far chicago has this airport beat by 718 gun murders in 2016. I would rather they shut that hole down first.
