Agreed. The last time we were at Sky Harbor we were being herded like cattle at checkin. Fish in a barrel.
Depending on what airport you may have one checkpoint for 20 to hundreds of gates. Everyone is in the same place at the same time. At baggage claim you have staggered baggage arrivals for only a few flights at any given time with people much more spread out in random areas, not a predictable pattern.
