Trump Wins Applause For His ‘Refreshing’ Celebrity-Free Inauguration
Washington Times ^ | Saturday, January 7, 2017 | Jennifer Harper

It is ironic that President-elect Donald Trump, a genuine celebrity in his own right, is shunned by many famous folk who refuse to be civil as inauguration day approaches? Who cares? So asks Roger L. Simon, founder of PJ Media and an award-winning Hollywood screenplay writer, who thinks the lack of celebrities is a “great thing” and points out that Hillary Clinton lost the election despite Tinseltown’s best efforts.

“I’d like to see the inaugural completely celebrity-free. Wouldn’t that be refreshing? No endless parade of Kardashians or housewives, real or imagined. No supposedly funny parodies by Alec Baldwin. No endless yadda-yadda from Stephen Colbert. No words of wisdom from Barbra Streisand. Just a few patriotic tunes from a Marine Corps band and a man swearing on, yes, a Bible,” writes Mr. Simon in a recent op-ed for the news site.

“It won’t happen entirely, this celebrity-free zone — but it could be close and we should be thankful,” he adds. “On the positive side too, Trump has apparently decided to write his own speech and, more importantly, keep it short.”

The grassroots appeal has been part of the plan for sometime, however. “The inaugural is not Woodstock. It’s not summer jam. It’s not a concert,” Boris Epshteyn, director of communications for the Inaugural Committee, told CNN in December.

"The so-called ‘A’ list celebrities are all wanting tix to the inauguration, but look what they did for Hillary, NOTHING. I want the PEOPLE!” Mr. Trump himself recently tweeted.

Be so glad when we, as a nation, can get out of the Bama-Drama mode.

......“I’d like to see the inaugural completely celebrity-free.......

Me too!!!! I’m SICK of “celebrities”, especially after their feckless dissing of President-Elect Tump and whining that “popularity-vote winning” Hillary won’t be President instead!!!!

PHOOEY to all of them!!!!

Funny... I think that’s what most of us here on FR were saying a week or so ago when this topic came up. If great musicians were wanted, how about completely unknown talent who can then replace ‘celebrities’ for good? Perhaps Trump reads FreeRepublic?

In the NT there is a parable of a King giving a wedding banquet and many people were invited - for one reason or another the invitations were declined because these persons had more important things to do. So the King sent his servants to gather guests from all walks of life to attend which they did.

I think we are over the age of celebrity. It’s time to put ordinary people first. We don’t need to fixate on constant entertainment and they don’t think they need us. I’m glad that Trump’s inauguration parties will be filled with the people who count the most: Americans who love this nation and would sacrifice to make their neighbors or family comfortable and safe.

Well, maybe your outrage has lead to some action! I’m going to stick with the notion that Trump reads FR!

“We don’t need a circus for crying out loud! Take the oath, say a few words and get to work. Keep it short and dignified.”

With the weather currently forecast to be a high of 10 degrees, it should be very short for everyone’s health.

Why are you guys upset that KISS (Knights in Satan’s Service) won’t be performing? Simmons has said not so nice things about Christians.

I think Trump being the showman he is would have liked a number of A listers there and performing but since that won’t happen he shrugs and will do the inaugural without such. He is a big enough star by himself that it won’t really matter. 0 will be there and W, Carter and the Toons are showing up. Probably pere Bush won’t most likely for health reasons. The left has long dominated the artiste end of things but the right gets a few good ones on occasion. Given what happened to Bocelli I think we might get a few last minute surprises but even if not no great loss. Trump is the big star and anyone else not showing up is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

I purposely scheduled an important appointment that should have been scheduled on January 20th for January 19th. I’m racing home from work before noon on the 20th, and I have a bottle of champagne (saved from New Year’s Eve) chilling.

I’m popping the cork at noon on January 20th.

Celebrity-free homes, too. Most celebrities have issues, are not role models by any stretch. Knock down TV watching, do better and more active things.

zero is a narcissist yet relies on the adulation of the liberal celebrities for his self-worth.

Trump doesn’t need celebrity adulation. He is a celebrity in his own right, through hard work and perseverance.

zero wishes he were Trump.

“I think we are over the age of celebrity. It’s time to put ordinary people first. “

We would have gone to DC for the inauguration, but I have to work the morning of the 20th. I know that Trump understands and is appreciative that many of the working class support him but can’t be there for his inauguration.

The Bible says that we should not be a respecter of persons (IOW, not influenced by a person’s position in society or wealth). zero and hiLIARy only care about how much money or influence they get from relationships. But Trump seems to be genuinely aware of the value of every person.

Celebrities are used to give validity to the candidate by recognition and idol worship. A truly valid candidate stands on his own....
