Our nephew had a pit bull. He came and sat next to me. (the dog not the nephew who actually wasn’t there). I patted Eli for a while and then stopped at which point, in a split second he whipped around and took my forearm in his mouth. Had I panicked I’m pretty sure he would have bit me and he had the strength to tear my arm off. Instead I stared him down and growled his name. He let go and went to a corner and laid down. No skin was broken.
The dog’s name wasn’t Chet by any chance was it?
He probably just wanted you to keep petting him. I had a little Yorki who when I quit would take her paw and pull my arm toward her so I would continue. Her mouth was to little to wrap around my are. :-)
Gotta keep petting. Good that you know the lingo. Dogs respect that.
A friend had a Dobbie that wouldn’t let you stop petting. He never got physical over it though. Just kept putting his head under your hand.
People went to the local shelter here to adopt a Beagle. Right in front of them a Pit Bull attacked the dog they picked out & killed it. Ripped it apart. It was in the newspaper. Everyone was horrified.
