The same polls that said Hillary was going to be President
The polls said that Hillary was ahead nationally. But that's not how the pundits interpreted the polls. They made a big leap to predict that the national polls would reflect individual state election results. The real polling, on election day, confirmed what the national polls showed -- that Hillary was ahead. What the news media (and probably the majority of citizens and non-citizens in the US) have not yet gotten their brains wrapped around is that the popular vote and is NOT how US presidential elections are determined ... and that (of course!) is exactly what approval polls are going to reflect.
The Democrats became pretty sore about losing their supply of cheap labor after the Civil War, too. The Old South became reliably Democrat for 100 years.
