I had an apartment like that when I first left home.
BIG old elegant house in Michigan that had been divided into five apartments. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows, hardwood floors, etc. Really cool!

She was very liberal back in the day, but as the left has gone more moonbat crazy, she may have moderated. Doesn’t matter. She was always classy.

First, there was Danny Thomas’s daughter, Marlo in That Girl.
The natural succession to her ‘Excited Ingenue’ character was Mary.

Less well known, is how MTM Enterprises eventually became the nucleus of what was later known as Fox News.
Yes, there is a direct connection of programming that was sold off by Mary and her husband.

She would not be the first person with liberal-leaning views to recoil from today’s moonbat crazy Left.

Trump’s approval spiked after that Saturday protest.
I think most people on the fence, or even a little left, looked at that and said “if THAT’S the opposition, then I’m sticking with Trump!”

I would submit that there are no accidental shootings while cleaning a gun. I do not see how that is possible. You’d have to be mentally impaired to not unload a gun before working it. All of those accidents are suicide IMO.

Oh, I see. Thank you. I didn’t know the full story.
Still tragic though.

Off Topic: Doris Day and singer Judy Collins also lost their only children after the children had become adults.

I always felt sorry for her - yeah, I know she has had a great life in many ways - but I bet her son’s suicide in 1980 haunts her to this day.

Always think about her in Ordinary People. IIRC, her son committed suicide shortly after she finished that movie. It also, although it was arguably her best acting job, mostly killed her career. She played such a dark character in that movie that it shattered the Laura Petrie/Mary Richards persona.

Always thought it was ironic that she always played the perfect wife/girlfriend, but was married three times.

Loved her work.

Barbara Eden also had a son die of an overdose about a decade ago. Not sure if that was her only child.

Lou’s reaction to see Mary dressed that way.

I think her hair style at that time was influenced by Jackie Kennedy.

Joe Kennedy had a lot of influence in the media, and John Kennedy was popular with the Hollywood crowd. One of the reasons, although obviously not the only one that MTM and Dick Van Dyke were chosen for their roles was their resemblance to the Kennedys.

"I had to check for Dick Van Dyke - he is still alive at age 91. Mary Tyler Moore is 80."

And this is him just a year ago.

I’d forgotten that her legs were in Richard Diamond. Loved that show!

As a firefighter, I made calls on several self-inflicted gunshot wounds. They’re frequently listed as accidents when conditions suggest otherwise. Sometimes the family can’t accept that it was suicide.

She really was so cute and charming when she was young. I just saw an episode of Dick Van Dyke recently. And I remember her own show when I was little. She played the straight guy and all the characters around her got the great lines, and got all the Emmys. But she made it all happen.

Prayers up for best possible outcome.

These two episodes are hilarious, but my favorite one is called, “Put on a Happy Face” when Mary is nominated for a Teddy Award, but everything in her life goes wrong while trying to get to the event, including spraining an ankle, catching a cold, getting a stained dress, having a bad hair day, and having Ted Baxter as your date for the evening!

That was her only child, father was Michael Ansara (who lived to a fairly ripe age a few years ago). Apparently, Barbara had another that died stillborn.
