I could see the White House from where I was standing, and wondering why he couldn’t travel a mile and address us himself.

Security concerns would have disrupted the attendees unnecessarily. Easier on the crowd that way.

Security was eminently doable back in the 1990 era.

More of a challenge now, but not impossible.

Otherwise, the President might as well not leave the White House.
