You do realize that a cheaper peso helps their trade balance with the US? right? Oh of course you don’t.

You do realize it means a dollar buys more Mexican goods then before and therefore we get the same stuff but spend less don’t you?

It doesn’t matter.

They do not have the manufacturing and technology base to attract foreign investment no matter how cheap they make the only asset they have that others are attracted to, cheap labor.

The devaluations of their history have all been disastrous for them.

And now additionally, they are facing the specter of crushing tariffs.

Mexico will be on life support soon if they continue to play games. Their political leadership will in the next weeks be haggling over how much will they need to pay for the Wall and begging the USA if they can they please have their labor involved.

LOL! Don't forget - they also threatened to pull out of NAFTA - that'll do wonders for their end of the trade gravy train....

Of course a cheaper peso gives the US greater leverage over Mexico. Mexico is the annual recipient of $26 billion in remittances from the US. The amount exceeds the sale of oil to the US. We can attach a surcharge to the remittances. Also, if Mexico wants to engage in a trade war with the US, it would be the bigger loser.

Wait until the illegal aliens from Mexico start flooding back to Mexico. It happened in a more limited amount when AZ passed its e-verify law (upheld by SCOTUS). The Mexican mayors along the border met with AZ legislators telling them the influx of their citizens from the US was causing havoc in their communities.

Mexico Is Angry Mexican legislators expressed concern that an Arizona law would prompt an influx of Mexicans into Sonora from Arizona
