WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) The West Lafayette High School boys basketball coach is calling the president of the United States a bigot after two of his players were called the N-word.
He wrote about it in a piece published by the Lafayette Journal and Courier.
I finally decided to do it publicly after this incident, said Dave Wood, who is currently in his 23rd season as the Red Devils head coach.
Wood said two of his players were walking from Happy Hollow Elementary School to the high school on Monday when an SUV stopped nearby. He said the people inside called the players the N-word.
My players, at that point, got out of the situation and got to one of their homes. But they were obviously shaken by the situation, he said.
Wood said too many similar incidents have been occurring since the election. He gave strong words in his op-editorial piece to describe why he believes this is the case.
I believe that black people felt empowered when we elected Barack Obama as president, Wood said. And I believe that we have elected a white, bigoted person as president. I believe that people who are white and bigoted feel empowered as well.
Wood said since the op-ed was published late Wednesday morning, hes had several people tell him they are proud of him. But he knows his words wont be well-received by everyone.
Did I know that there would be people who disagree with me? Of course I did. If this creates some dialogue that maybe allows us to reach a common ground, then its been a good thing, he said.
WLFI reached out to West Lafayette Community School Corporation Superintendent Rocky Killion for comment on the piece.
I support my staff, as well as all citizens, to appropriately voice their opinion as allowed by the First Amendment, Killion said.
And any white school teacher pointing that on social media out would have been on the unemployment rolls by the end of the day.
My bad. Wasn’t social media, it was the local news rag.
My bad. Wasn’t social media, it was the local news rag.
Blah blah blah
Probably fake news...has that air.
No, Hillary lost.
Was sitting around the other day and someone insulted my cat.
Or called me a cat.
Anyway, the word pussy was being thrown in my direction.
I don’t really know what happened but I think I should be aggrieved.
Not trying to be critical of a whole music theme or genre BUT if you take all the insult/profanity/trigger words out of rap you would have pretty much of a band solo or blank.
Red Devils? Now that’s a name I would really be concerned about. Imparting demons right on the players.
I don’t believe any of this....not one word.....
Dad finds kids pot brownies, eats four, insults family cat

Whoops. . .I meant to say empowering demons right on the players.
If bigots feel empowered by Donald Trump, it’s because the liberal media told them over and over they’re supposed to be...
False flag? These days, unless I see video of it, I think it probably didn't happen.
Did I miss something? When did Trump use the n-word against someone?
I grew up in West Lafayette. Haven’t lived there for 30 years, but still visit frequently to see family. A few thoughts to put this story in context.
* West Lafayette = Purdue University. The ‘incident’ described took place about 5 blocks from the Purdue campus.
* Great academic school system. 90% of the students, including the basketball players, would be children of Purdue University faculty and staff.
* The Journal & Courier used to be a good local paper. It was bought by Gannett about 40 years ago, and tows the the far left line now. Not a shred of local content anymore, except few stories like this that contribute to the collective narrative that the Gannett news organization wants to put out.
* Know the coach very slightly. Not a bad guy, but clearly a liberal running his mouth and making imaginary connections to Trump.
Whoever yelled from the car was probably a college student being stupid and rude, which is unfortunately what college students do sometimes.
What a liberal moron.
People in a SUV called them names? Is that a bigoted code phrase for white people? Or are is the race of the name caller unknown or better yet, undisclosed. The only people I hear using this language are black Americans.
It was probably two other blacks. They use the word in every sentence.
So many people have been crying ‘wolf’ for so long and so loud, please just left the ‘wolf’ freak’n eat’um.
These people are like crying babies, come on you gotta admit, you eventually just want to stick them in the crib with a bottle, turn the monitor down a bit and close the door.
I was raised on the ‘Big Island’ of Hawaii, a ‘haole’ a white, in the 70’-80’s, Hilo side. I could tell you many stories of bigotry, prejudice and persecution on all levels.
(I do not use the words ‘race, racist or racism’. Use of these words are either due to ignorance or malicious intent.)
You know, I got over it. Whining and protesting is meaningless and weak.
Believe me I did it a short time, I played the victim; what I found out was; really nobody cared, even the victimizers really did not care, it was just something to do. Now that is a sad commentary on humanity.
So as the Eagles so eloquently put into words;
“Get Over It”
My players, at that point, got out of the situation and got to one of their homes.”
