‘Calexit’ organizers get permission to gather petition signatures for California to secede
New York Daily News ^ | January 27, 2017 | By Nancy Dillon

California is one step closer to possible secession.

Supporters of the so-called “Calexit” movement got the green light late Thursday to begin collecting the 585,407 voter signatures needed to get an initiative on the November 2018 ballot.

The group behind the proposal, known as Yes California, now has six months to collect and submit the signatures, according to California's Secretary of State Alex Padilla.

Yes California started back in 2015 but exploded with a groundswell of support — and the catchy #Calexit hashtag — in the days following President Donald Trump’s election.

“California and America are different cultures, very different. Donald Trump never would have been a candidate here, not even a party nominee. Do we need more evidence than that?” Yes California spokesman Marcus Ruiz Evans told the Daily News Friday.

He argued California is an economic powerhouse that subsidizes dozens of southern and midwestern states that don't share its values. He said the Golden State’s own crumbling highways, bridges, levees and schools should get that money instead.

“We're pumping out billions to other states. That's colony status,” he said Friday. . .

California won’t be able to survive. Not with the pure socialist government in charge now.

If Calexit were to happen, we could expect a Venezuela-like state within a few years. It probably wouldn’t take very long; the infrastructure is already crumbling.

I’m fine with whatever secession movements as long as only the counties that voted other than Trump secede.

That will leave the vast majority of California, including the Central Valley breadbasket, part of the US. Then we can institute a sane water policy and actually support our farmers.

Secession is a very slippery slope. At what granularity is the break made? Any area that went Trump has a minority that went Cankles. Any area that went Canky, has a minority that went Trump. Any size of area can be broken into Trump/Canky components. Oregon and Nevada went Canky... once they realize they may never see a 'Rat POTUS again without CA's electoral votes, they'll go with CA. Trumpers in CA/NV/OR will not all want to move, they'll want to secede. I'm here in MA; maybe the powers that be here ('Rat) will want to join non-coterminously with CA/NV/OR.

Perhaps this would lead to the ultimate Balkanization of the USA.

If California votes to secede, President Trump should send in the Army and Marines. Treasonfornia would then have to undergo reconstruction during which it will be an occupied territory with no Congressional representation and no electoral votes. Republicans will control the White House for at least the next 20 years.

I like the idea that was being discussed last year about California dividing into 5 states. Dilute the representation and electoral votes that are now derived primarily from the large cities.

Let’s not make it a waste of time. Make them stick to it. Kick them out and watch them implode. Then maybe, just maybe let them back in but with the state divided into 5 smaller states.

Ooooh, I think I’ll pass this petition for many signatures - before we high-tail it out of here by next year. They are all nuts in Sacramento/ San Fran.

I haven’t read their petition but if it is indeed for secession, then California’s Secretary of State Alex Padilla in approving this for processing has, I believe, performed an act of sedition.

It may seem a joke to some but the message of this will have a response.

The response should be that the voters tell these jokesters to not waste their time. Although many people think California is a lost cause, I know for a fact that secession is not something that will move the voters there. It’s not going to happen by voters.

But there is another aspect which is that this Secy of State Padilla is spending money on seditious activity. It doesn’t matter if it’s a stamped application with payment, followed by a simple signature, it is TIME SPENT with focus demanded on things that are clearly illegal.

It is in the same category as a government counter clerk accepting an application from a group that would like permission to gather signatures to vote on the right to confiscate real property owned by anyone that refused to join their group and to pay required dues, making the victims accessories after the fact.

It would be advisable to let the voters in California turn these creeps out while our President waits patiently to hang it around Jerry Brown’s neck.

All rosy govt financial projections aside, the Cali economy is in major debt.

The business climate in Cali is toxic.

No sane business would now locate in Cali.

Many, many businesses that were considering moving to a "red state", are now giving that consideration more serious thought.

If Calexit ever passed, the exit of business and responsible (e.g. taxpaying) citizens from a state dominated by such gross irresponsibility would be the Landrush of the 21st century.

Property values would plummet and the Once-Golden-State would be the new Beirut.

.

Cali is occupied territory. Occupied by foreigners and non-USAians.
1. Give it to Mexico.
2. Much of its useful industry will move into the rest of USA.

Send in the Military and put down this Coup, then to be sure they dont have the power to do it again break up California into 4 states - 1 Liberal HELL and 3 Conservative States. Teach these bastards a hard lesson and give me the Old California back that was an awesome place when I grew up as a kid. Make the Coup plotters felons who can never hold public office ever again.

So, after it is given to Mexico, which state, AZ, NV, or NM, will you give up next?

And will you wait 5 years, or will you do that in 2018?

The ‘economic powerhouse’, funding other states premise is somewhat misleading. A goodly percentage of California’s tax ‘contribution’ to the country is monies not actually produced within the state but monies passing thru. As an example, Apple, which is headquartered in California but produces and sells a very small percentage of it’s products within the state, pays it’s tax obligation (including Federal) via the state of California. I believe there are many such companies with similar circumstances.

Can non-Californians sign the petition? Not that anyone would ever vote illegally on something like this, of course. We all know that could never happen.
