The Coming Clash with Iran
WND ^ | Feb. 2, 2017 | Pat Buchanan

Posted on 02/02/2017 6:21:18 PM PST by Tours

When Gen. Michael Flynn marched into the White House Briefing Room to declare that “we are officially putting Iran on notice,” he drew a red line for President Trump. In tweeting the threat, Trump agreed.

His credibility is now on the line.

And what triggered this virtual ultimatum?

Iran-backed Houthi rebels, said Flynn, attacked a Saudi warship, and Tehran tested a missile, undermining “security, prosperity and stability throughout the Middle East,” placing “American lives at risk.”

But how so?

The Saudis have been bombing the Houthi rebels and ravaging their country, Yemen, for two years. Are the Saudis entitled to immunity from retaliation in wars they start?

....Or are we going to carry out any retaliation alone, as our NATO allies observe, while the Israelis, Gulf Arabs, Saudis and the Beltway War Party, which wishes to be rid of Trump, cheer him on?....

Bibi Netanyahu hailed Flynn’s statement, calling Iran’s missile test a flagrant violation of the U.N. resolution and declaring, “Iranian aggression must not go unanswered.” By whom, besides us?

The Saudi king spoke with Trump Sunday. Did he persuade the president to get America more engaged against Iran?.....

...High among the reasons that many supported Trump was his understanding that George W. Bush blundered horribly in launching an unprovoked and unnecessary war on Iraq....

Mr. President, please no more idiotic wars in the Middle East.

We don’t need to be supporting the crazed Wahhabi Saudis in their bombing of the Houthis.

Another war in the Middle East, unless our forces are directly attacked, will result in Trump losing all credibility with a very significant percentage of the electorate including myself.

It is an excuse to tear up the ‘Iran Deal’ to free us to place sanctions on as we see fit.

He already has vowed to wipe out Isis and Islamic terrorists from the face of the earth. Repeated many times.

I don’t see a way that Iran’s actions against Israel, Europe, USA and Sunni Islam countries does not start a huge war. Will Russia and China side with Iran? Will Iran do this on purpose to cause the world disorder that is supposed to bring the 12th imam and the beginning of the end of the world they dream of?

Aug 2015...

From Real Clear Politics, Sept 10, 2015...

"In a 2014 New Yorker interview, Obama said his goal was to create a 'new equilibrium' in the Middle East.

In the short run, at least, his signature diplomatic undertaking can be counted on to bring more violence to this volatile region.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, as the [Obama-Putin Iran deal] agreement is formally known, provides the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism an infusion of somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 billion of unfrozen assets and a great deal more of continuing revenues as businesses and governments around the world rush to profit from oil-and-gas-rich Iran's reintegration into the world economy.

The agreement relaxes the international isolation of the Islamic Republic and ratifies Tehran's status as a nuclear threshold state. And it relieves restrictions on Iran's acquisition of weapons, including ballistic missiles. ..."

I read Buchanan’s column in full. I think he’s right. Strong words so far. We will see.

Little more than sanctions, if Israel is so bothered by them, maybe they need to do something.

I am not happy with this. What the hell is Flynn talking about? On “Notice”of What. I want to warn Trump. This Glaobalist jerk may have infiltrated to start this crap. 1. it is not our business to tell sovereign nations what to do unless they screw with THIS NATION!! 2. I don’t give a flat flying flip about those G damned Saudis that attacked our nation with those Wahhabi bastards and royal Family members on 911 and killed 3000 Americans - more than Pearl Harbor. We should have turned those bastards to GLASS!

The British Empire at its peak had an effective technique against aggressive enemies: a non-linear response.

That is, if you directly fight back against an attack, then enemy will be ready for you and it may cost you dearly. But if you “hit ‘em where they ain’t”, you can inflict expensive harm on them where they are not prepared.

This being said, Iran has some impressive vulnerabilities not obvious to most people. Dams.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dams_and_reservoirs_in_Iran

Iran is very reliant on dams, both for electrical power and for water, which is a weak point for them.

If you’ve seen the classic movie “The Dam Busters” (1955), while the technology has certainly changed, dams remain a “hard target”. Typically very thick on the bottom, tapering upward, they need to be attacked high enough to penetrate, but low enough so that the water behind them will tear the rest apart.

On the plus side, dams often appear in a chain on a single river, so that if one higher up bursts, it might tear down one or more of the lower dams as well.

Mr. President, don’t make war — make jobs, jobs, jobs.

There are still many unemployed in Texas in the oil industry.
