Rep. Steve King: Trump should've repealed DACA on Day 1
CNN ^ | 02/09/2017 | Chris Massie

Posted on 02/09/2017 9:57:06 AM PST by GIdget2004

Republican Congressman Steve King said Wednesday that President Donald Trump should have repealed Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA), on his first day in office.

Enacted by President Barack Obama, DACA shields undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children from deportation and makes them eligible for driver's licenses and work permits. Trump pledged to repeal the program during his presidential campaign, but has not yet taken action on it.

King, who holds one of the most hardline stances on immigration of any Republican in the House, criticized the new presidential administration's inaction on the "Larry O'Connor Show" on WMAL Washington, DC, radio.

"Listen, the President made a clear pledge," the Iowa congressman said. "This was actually going to be first day. But from the first day on, information is that they continue to issue DACA permits to US citizenship and immigration services. That's roughly 800 a day. All he had to do was sign an executive order on the first day. That should've been done. I timed him: He was signing executive orders, it was taking him 47 seconds per executive order a Saturday or two ago. I only want 47 seconds of the President's time. Knock it out and let's get on with life."

As I understand it, DACA involves registration of illegal aliens, giving the feds names, addresses, phone numbers. VERY large scale deportation may be awaiting clarification of presidential powers regarding aliens by the courts in, for example, the visa and green card case in the courts right now. So, while VERY large scale deportation is on hold, maybe it would be beneficial to collect as much info on as many illegals as possible for future use?

DACA is completely illegitimate. It must be immediately ended.

Dude, it hasn’t even been 3 weeks and he already has a first-week EO moving up to the Supreme Court. This is to set Supreme Court precedent for coming immigration EO’s. Have a little faith in a multi-billionaire who was super successful is a very complicated business in a very tough city to operate. It requires simultaneously considering a million moving parts. President Trump plays 5-D chess. This is why Carl Icahn, MOTU super-titan of finance and industry said only Trump has what it takes to straighten out the problems America faces.

I’m fine and I am encouraged by much of what President Trump has done, but this was a Day One promise.
Day 20 and no action.
At some point the policy becomes his.

I don’t expect them to deport them all right away, but they do have to stop giving them work permits and SS#s.

Hey Steve King, would your candidate, Cruz, have eliminated DACA in under 3 weeks??

DACA is illegal. It was never “enacted” and cannot be “repealed.”

People talk about “repealing” judicial decisions, too.

I’m rather sick of seeing concern trolls in these parts.

If you want to criticize Trump, please do it on forums set up for that.

D.U. and Huffington Post come to mind.

You can hang out on the DJ, WP, and NYT sites and meet with folks just like you. You should be happy there.

People here are pretty danged happy with the progress so far, and we’re convinced our goals will be attained.

Sorry you are not a part of this mindset.

Maybe Congress (HINT!) can take care of some of the absurd distractions from the Democrats so he can GET TO STUFF LIKE THIS?

I think the Trump administration is getting its ducks all in a row. There will be court challenges when he does so, so he needs to have everything lined up for that inevitable court challenge.

“but this was a Day One promise.

Day 20, lots of other crap that is proving to be an unnecessary distraction thanks to Democrats, the press, and lazy Republicans.

Day 20 (seriously a whole 20 days): people on FR that are banging away on keyboards wondering why he isnt living on their schedule of having to not have to deal with any of this.

YES! President Trump failed to honor one of his most important Day One promises. Very upsetting.
