Lily Eskelsen García: Children are fearful to go to school as a result of immigration raids

NEA President: immigration raids send shock waves among students and families

WASHINGTON - February 10, 2017 -

Reports from news media and immigrant rights advocates indicate new Trump administration immigration enforcement raids are underway in several states, including Arizona, California, Texas, North Carolina, and Georgia. Advocates and media outlets are reporting chaos in schools and communities affected by the raids. In a North Carolina community, students witnessed arrests. Other communities are reporting that immigration agents are following schools buses.

The following joint statement can be attributed to NEA President Lily Eskelsen García and Texas State Teachers Association President Noel Candelaría:

"Children are fearful to go to school. Parents are desperately trying to find guardians for their children in the event they are detained or deported. We've seen this before. And it's happening again. This time, it is happening in the middle of the night or as students load up buses and head to school. This time it is happening without any oversight, review, or due process.

"The current raids are beyond reprehensible, they are inhumane, and they are a deliberate and coordinated attack on those who come to America seeking safety, freedom, and opportunity, and, in the process, make America a better country.

"These shocked and frightened families are our friends and our neighbors. Our students are collateral damage as a result of these raids. The heightened environment of intimidation and fear in immigrant neighborhoods is carried into classrooms by traumatized students.

"As the Trump administration threatens our students, their families, and our way of life, we will not stay silent. As families turn to their childrens educators for solace and advice, we are going accelerate ongoing efforts to create and implement commonsense policies like our public school safe zones where all students are welcome. Public school safe zones allow school boards to go on the record to that they won't allow immigration enforcement agents into their schools without a proper review process and that they are committed to the protection of student privacy via practices ensuring that no data is being collected with respect to students immigration status or place of birth.

"We call on the Trump administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to put an immediate stop to these abhorrent immigration raids in our communities."

It’s obviously nothing more than a DNC Super Pac and Commie/Marxist ideology.

It should be destroyed via defunding. No public assistance at all.

Will the NEA come to understand - Mexico is going to pay for the wall - they are going to be happy to pay for it. Does the NEA know why or how they are related to even ask?

Because if they don't all the illegals that are deported back to Mexico will collapse the society and the government. The corrupt Mexican government types will be killed. To avoid this killing these government officials will rape their country once again to come up with the money.

The wall creates a little something called leverage. Perhaps they will now come to the table and work out some payment and repatriation terms

Mexico can cry me a river rio grande - a nations biggest asset is their people. What type of crappy ass country a nation that values big families and big family fiestas chases its sons and daughters away?

Answer: A corrupt lazy one on the take. Best thing that country could get is a bunch of english speakers injected into their economy.

Doesn’t the NEA advocate for smaller Class sizes?

Sounds like a win win for them.

Just sayin’......

If their parents are criminal felon illegal alien invaders, they should be afraid. Their illegal alien parents should be narrested, have their assets seized and be deported. Take them back to mexico or whatever crappy country they came from. The illegal alien parents should nevber be allowed back into the USA. Stop breaking our laws.

Did you see some of the young kids at anti-Trump demonstrations using all sorts of foul language and behavior?

No, I didn't see that.

The Bush’s were soft on illegal immigration, but Obama did the illegals a great disservice by encouraging the to come and then making them feel they were immune from the laws and the gravy train would last forever. All DJT is doing is enforcing the laws.

Be prepared for months of ‘horror’ stories about the poor women and children.

Equal time reporting would include a report showing how much these people have cost the citizens throughout their illegal stay in our country. They consume resources sorely needed by our own citizens.

I do not see the logic in borrowing from China or binding our great grandkids to debt to care for these interlopers. The faster we are rid of them, the better.

The school boards need to compose a statement to be read to all students. It would be something like this: “To all students whose parents have broken the laws of the USA by coming here illegally- your parents are criminals and will be dealt with accordingly. If you have been born in this country it is likely you will be allowed to stay with guardians, or as wards of the state while your parents are sent to their homeland. They may, of course, choose to take you with them. That is entirely up to them, not the school or the government of this country. Ask your parents what they intend to do with you as our country rounds up illegals and deports them to their HOMELAND. Breaking laws have consequences.”

That’s OK I’m fearful to drive because I don’t know if an illegal will crash into my car uninsured. I’m also fearful to eat in a restaurant because I don’t know if I will get TB Smallpox or Zika from an illegal alien chef or dish washer.

Nothing to fear if you enter the country as a legal immigrant.

Yep-—they target any little children with a true Christian worldview and destroy it. They isolate them, demean them (using peer pressure), shame them esp. when they “think” that a mommy and daddy is better than two daddies.

These little children are literally “trained” to be only controlled, dependent “thinkers”-—only repeating what ever the teacher says is “Good” and “Evil”.

These children embed the idea that something is seriously wrong with them and their parents if the parents are Chrsitian. they learn never to “think for themselves”.....they can’t because they are being brainwashed-—never taught agency or to “think” for self which has to be learned and practiced.

I dispute the premise of the article.

Immigrants aren’t worried about a thing, in fact many are happy with what’s going on.

The only people worried are illegal aliens and their representatives.

...they can go to school in their home countries without fear!

Many of them were born here, their parents' little anchors. Our own laws created that situation. Now they might be afraid that when they get home, dad and/or mom won't be there...

Schools are funded based on student head count. No students, less jobs, less union dues, less union capos, less politicians who take payments...thats why they’re fighting...end of the fleecing of taxpayers. No more guaranteed wages. You’ll have to work whole year with students.must be creative to teach with less materials...go away NEA

I was referring to the postings here about Trump supporters or those wearing Trump paraphernalia to school getting their butts kicked.
