‘The traditions of the Royal Navy are rum, sodomy and the lash’?’..........................
I am sure there is a lot of good talent out there.
Would they take an American?
It might be that Pakistanis in the UK did not bring with them a tradition of maritime warfare, even if the Indus River transverses their old homeland.
How about hitting them in the back of the head, dragging them out of the bar and throwing them on the ship? It worked in the old days.
Because it takes so many sailors to man
1 amphib. assault ship
2 LPDs
3 landing ships
6 destroyers
13 frigates
4 patrol ships (rented, not owned)
1 patrol icebreaker
15 minesweepers
4 “survey vessels”
4 ballistic missile subs
7 fleet subs
What does a RN E-1 make?
Simple solution, bring back press gangs.
The comments at the end of the Express article were very interesting, IMHO.
Seems that some of our British friends hold a rather low opinion of their immigrant population, suggesting that many would return to their former home countries if faced with conscription. Others offered that foreign aid and welfare spending have cut into military spending.
Interesting to get the British perspective.
They have plenty of ‘Asians’ that need work.
Didn’t they scrap most of their big ships already? How many sailors could they need?
Reminds me of the movie Battleship. Starts at 0:42 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7XbH3iz734
Funny. The UK had big cuts to military personnel a few years back. I know that the Australian Defence Force recruited a bunch of highly trained and experienced newly unemployed ex UK service personnel. We did the same thing with Canada back in the late 1990s. One of them came across as a Lieutenant Commander and is now Commodore (Rear Admiral lower half equivalent in the USN).
Hell, we’ve snapped up so many UK, Canadian, and New Zealand personnel over the years it can sound like a 5 eyes convention in places.
