Take a look at the latest reports and video. They may give you some comfort. The auxiliary spillway is no longer passing water as the lake has dropped below its level. It will not collapse under current conditions as it is a hillside that was being eroded by the flowing water. The next danger point is if there is a new storm and significant inflow to the reservoir on Thursday or later.

There is a pond near my home that was created with an earthen dam, probably in the mid-1800s, and at one time had a mill at the outflow. About twenty years ago a storm overtopped and breached the dam and most of the water was lost, affecting several properties downstream. When the dam was rebuilt they installed concrete culverts under it, attached to a concrete box topping out few feet lower than the top of the dam. So when the water level rises too high it overtops the box and bypasses under the dam to the creek below. It has cured the problem so far, and we’ve seen some substantial storms since those days.

Thank you all for your prayers and your offers of assistance! The mandatory evacuation order has been lifted! Just to be safe, we are keeping our vehicles packed up and sleeping with one eye closed tonight. But I'm going to enjoy the crap out of this beer!
