I heard different than this. I heard this guy wanted to bring his own staff with him and that was a snafu.
I do hope Petraus is no longer in the mix.

I recall seeing a picture of 3 people in line for National Security. Petraus wasn't in that picture. It was Flynn, Harward and a Big burley dark haired guy if I recall. Anyone know who that is and what happened with him?

I read both. And the WH wanted to keep Kate McFarland and he wanted to completely clean house. I saw several reports that he made the dysfunctional comment but I did a search and couldn’t find a quote or source.
Yes- he did want his own staff with him. And I would have to hear that quote- (his reason for turning down the job)- for myself because I can’t imagine saying something like that publically about his CIC.
