Dads doctor said. Just take it. What your body doesn’t need it will pass through without any side effects
He said 5.000 units were not too many for people over 50 that did not get out of the house So that’s what dad got. I sometimes up my dosage in winter or when I was not feeling well

To much vitamin D can cause problems. More than likely not from the amount you can get over the counter though.

My husbands Dr. after doing a blood test put him on a prescription dosage of 50,000 EVERY day and after a year or two of him being on the Mega dose, I decided to look it up and find out if it could cause problems. I found this article from the Mayo Clinic.

What is vitamin D toxicity, and should I worry about it since I take supplements?

Needles to say I was upset because the doctor NEVER monitored his blood work after putting him on it. I brought this finding it up to the doctor and he said to stop taking it and just get it over the counter.
