” and the business owners who hire them.”

I really disagree with that.

It’s the fedgov’s job to secure the borders and make sure that only legal immigrants are here...

...not private business’.

The fedgov created this mess, they should be tasked with cleaning it up.

And it’s the business owner’s job to follow the law and not hire them...

Business owners know not to hire illegals in the first place. Many cannot be bothered doing the research, or just want cheaper labor which takes jobs away from Americans.

True story....a business owner asked a prospective employee to provide the necessary paperwork to prove it was legal to hire said employee. The prospective employee complied and provided the paperwork.......written in plain English on the paperwork was the following (paraphrasing): you do not have to provide this paperwork to a prospective employer ** and ** it is illegal to deny employment because this paperwork was not produced when asked for.........

.^^^ this is what employers are up against!

The GOV is also responsible for collecting taxes, SS, etc. Employers play a role in that too.

You need to think that through a little more.

It’s no different than a business looking the other way while using/reselling stolen property. After all it’s the police’s job to handle that....

Part of the problem with illegals includes the lure of businesses willing to look the other way at immigration law. Yes, the fedgov created the mess, but it’s abetted by any and all who skirt existing law.

” and the business owners who hire them.”

I really disagree with that.

So, you think it should be legal for American employers to hire illegal aliens, as opposed to hiring our own citizens?

You do understand that there are still 95,000,000 Americans out of work, don't you?

And what about small business owners like me, who've never hired illegals, but have been forced to compete with them in the marketplace? Do you have any idea of the scale of economic destruction those people have caused to our livelihoods and families?

I'll bet you don't, nor does it sound like you care.

How can it not be the responsibility of companies to make sure they hire legal citizens? What are you a farmer? I worked in the medical field as a nurse and never once did I fill out an application where I did not have to give my SS# or mark whether or not I was a natural born citizen. I also had to under go a criminal background check. Was it up to the government to make sure “said” hospital, hospice, etc. didn’t hire a criminal or a non citizen? That’s ridiculous.

Absolutely businesses have a responsibility to check on who they hire, and they should not be hiring criminals. Someone here illegally is by the definition of the word, breaking the law.

An employer is required by most state and federal laws to verify legal employment status of the individuals they hire. It's very difficult to determine their true legal status when nearly all of them provide every legal document required at the state and federal levels. That is the reality. There is no extra level of scrutiny on whether the documents are legit unless other circumstances come up after the fact, such as a conflict with their provided SS number. Maybe there should be, but typically all minimum requirements are met and it goes no further at an employer level.

That they have access to realistic documents, clear SS numbers, and the kind of turn around time of hours instead of days for document requests is where the responsible parties are doing the most harm outside of the feds and states allowing these illegals over our borders in the first place.

That said, there are businesses that do knowingly hire these people, no doubt about it. Yes, those businesses should be held accountable if the evidence is clear.
