That is the flag of the Soviet Union, it is not and never was the Russian flag.
The tricolor Russian flag has existed for hundreds of years.
My guess is that most people understand that the Soviet Union has not existed for the last 25 years.

The hammer and sickle is the Soviet Union flag. I am not sure about everyone knowing what the Russian flag looks like. Actually, probably not so many Americans know.

Funny. When the Soviets used this flag, the dems and the Media were in love with them. Like they have been and still are with Cuba.
Now that Russia is overtly Christian, not so much.
