Kenney views product price hikes and layoffs due to the tax as a choice by businesses to punish the city and its residents for the policy.

Ah, the Venezuela "solution."

Given the fact that every tax is a means to exert control over the people (not to merely raise revenue), I’d say this was an unqualified success for the fascists. Hope they enjoy every little victory they can get, because a new Sheriff is in town in DC.

It’s declared successful because the subversives want to destroy the business.

Does this idiot mayor actually think that Apu , who runs the local Kwik-e-Mart is making “seven figure bonuses”?”

passing the tax they should be paying onto their customer

So the mayor is glad that soda sales are down, but is upset that the tax is being passed on the customers. Apparently, the major is so dumb that he doesn't know that it's precisely because the tax is being passed on to the customers that sales are down.

Grocery stores are one of the lower profit industries, their profit margin is around 5%. Of course they will have to lay off people if their business goes down.

I didn’t think it was possible for the soda industry to be any greedier
Democrats, calling others greedy for their greed and tax increases.

Mayor Kenney seems confused.

Is the purpose of the soda tax to raise revenue or to reduce consumption of sugary sodas?

If it is the latter, the businesses should pass on the tax to increase the price to the consumer and reduce consumption.

Mayor Kenney is engaging in doublethink. Maybe two minutes of hate will help him cope.

Grocery stores and department stores have not been doing well recently. They have had to replace full time employees with part-time, and sales have dropped for the major department store chains. For the vast majority of the items sold, the grocery store profits a few cents given all the costs for operation and employee benefits.

So this asshat thinks corporations are to absorb taxes passed on their products by whatever whim democrats impose. Once corporations are no longer viable because of this whimsical imposition of taxes just where do these intellectual giants propose they get their revenue?

“I didn’t think it was possible for the soda industry to be any greedier,” Kenney told Philly.com Tuesday. “They are so committed to stopping this tax from spreading to other cities, that they are not only passing the tax they should be paying onto their customer, they are actually willing to threaten working men and women’s jobs rather than marginally reduce their seven figure bonuses.

What an arrogant fascist prick.

In a stunning coincidence, soda sales are booming just outside the city limits.

As long as all the "right people" feel good your being unemployed makes no difference at all.

To the the democrat fascists who represent the oligarchs those who isn't in their clique are just sheep for them to do with as they will. Which, oddly enough, is exactly what the the Shah of Iran called the people of Iran, his sheep.
