Why would I watch a movie about Apollo 13? I already know how it turned out.

I was a "space nerd" (I was born the day of John Glen's Mercury launch) when I was growing up, and I remember my family being glued to the TV set when news of the explosion came out.

I don't think that most people are aware of the miracles that allowed the crew to make it home. It was really an eye opener, and even knowing how the mission ended in real life didn't reduce the level of tension in the movie. And it was amazing to get a glimpse into the lives and actions of the people who helped them get home.

I'm old enough to remember Sputnik, and to remember my father telling me that no one had ever seen the far side of the moon. When the Soviets sent back the first photos of the far side of the moon, my mother thought they were faked.

I guess I should watch the Apollo 13 movie to see how Forrest Gump handles being an astronaut.
