This is where President Trump will have trouble keeping all his promises - the RINOs/GOPe folks will try to protect their seats by “giving free stuff” to those who contribute nothing - then not be able to explain why they aren’t sitting on the other side of the aisle. Will get ugly if Trump has to go into open warfare with them.
If they pitch the ACA without a reasonable and effective transition, they will lose probably terminally.
Obamacare wasn’t simply in parallel. It sucked up decades of risk investment, and destroyed it along with foundations needed to make things work.
The last chance at a relatively painless repeal was at the budget standoff several years back.
One can’t simply create a payment history and use history within a company within a brief period of time, which is at the least what you’d need for an equitable and sanely risk-balanced system to broadly work.
That said we need to move to a model where individuals own their own plans, and that it is actually insurance.
Maybe, but I don’t think anyone who would lose substantial benefits if ACA was pitched would ever vote Republican. The GOP MUST hold its base. If it fails to repeal Obamacare, it will lose it, maybe forever.
What needs to be in the repeal is authorizing of cross state competition for health insurance, and an expansion of the health savings account.
