Trump will get to run on Trumpcare; that will probably work as well as Obamacare.

We don’t call them “The Stupiid Party” for nothing.
To: Sopater
I think Trump will drag them across the glass, kicking and screaming, but they’ll do it.
To: Sopater
Trump should give republicans a deadline to put a bill on his desk. And if he doesn’t get one then he should start working to support a congress that will. Trump should distance himself from the congress. Its congresses job to produce the bills. He has to sign it. Ryan and McConnell said they just need a president that will sign their bills. Here is one. If the bills don’t come soon, Trump should start blaming the republican leadership. Its possible that there are more than a few bought and paid for republicans that don’t really want Trumps agenda. They need to be removed.

The mandate is effectively gone.
It can't exist without millions being forced into it.

I said from the beginning, if Trump is going to be effective in bringing back the Republic he is going to have to rule by fiat and decree because he will never get a Congress that wants any of that, Republican, Democrat or anything else.
I have said that from the beginning, but the butthurt Cruzers don't get it. Only he can undo this Oligarchy, Congress never will.

If the only reason that the mandate is "effectively" gone is because it's not being enforced by the IRS due to Trump's order, then it can just as easily change in a moment.

He can be Pinochet, or Napolean even. Will he? His R.E. empire building certainly prepared him to run and win the presidency. That particular talent tells us nothing about what he will do except that he might take it all on or he might build another business (business-like) empire out of it and not actually change the system much except to shrink it. A vastly shrunken bureaucracy is good for us temporarily, until the next President. If he really takes it in hand and eliminates the Agencies, maybe we really take off again economically and socially and for the long term.

Not as long as Trump is President!
Without massive influx of new people, the system collapses quickly.

Without also removing the mandate to provide coverage for those with pre-existing conditions, there will not be any companies left who will be able to provide insurance, either.
... and Trump won't always be president.

You cannot save or restore a Republic by ruling through fiat and decree.
God, help us.

You cannot save or restore a Republic by ruling through fiat and decree. We shall see won't we. I can assure you this is the best chance we have of saving the Republic because you have a very large uniparty faction that does not share you vision of a Constitutional Republic.
The only chance we have is a destructive tyrant that will voluntarily return the power to the people after draining the very corrupt swamp because they certainly will not drain it themselves, no matter how many time you wave the Constitution at them. Hell you can't even get a common sense decision out of the Supreme Court.

Then the Republic is, indeed, gone.
Trump cannot replace the Congress with unbeholden men. If he could those men would become beholden within days if not hours.
The Republic can be restored through fiat. It is unlikely that it would happen because the Napoleon you need too often turns out to be a real Napoleon. There is also the example of Pinochet. He took over, removed the Communists and their innovations and introduced Chicago School economics. He hung on a bit longer than he should have but when Pope JPII told him it was time to retire, he retired and Chile is almost Commie proof to this day and is a functioning modern Republic.
If the Republic is gone, finis, then we are reduced to the tribal system of voting i.e. vote for someone from your own tribe or religion or whatever and hope he siphons government loot to your side.

Most of the Republicans in Congress appear to be saying the same thing that Boehner said, just using euphemistic language- dressing the spades in lace before calling them.

They are not so much stupid as bought. Actually killing obamacare and truly returning to the long vanished free market for medicine and insurance would cut their extracurricular incomes pretty severely.

I understand your point.
Like I said: The Stupid Party.
To: poinq
Congressmen don’t really fear losing an election. The loss actually tends to increase their income and makes it legal. Putting in new Congressmen is good for mere hours before they are made aware of all the money they will make if they play along with the C of C and others. A smart man or a stupid man who is not particularly principled will go for the money every time. Principled men do not gravitate toward political position. Occasionally there are one or two such but one or two cannot drive a Congress and they mostly single termers.
