“Several years ago rental car companies dropped marking cars as rentals to avoid renters being targeted in Florida and elsewhere. Surely they should recall this before continuing their ill-thought tagging of bags with guns.”

I remember that.
It seems to me that this is a good way to mark luggage for the theft of the weapons inside them.
Because we all know that the TSA are honest folk. /s
(my apologies to those TSA workers who are actually honest. But I have had stuff stolen from me).
Sorry, when I said TSA, I meant baggage handlers.
I got a real workover from the TSA last time I went to see my Dad in Chicago.
I had some hand lotion that was too big, they scanned my carry-on and apparently it tested positive for some substance (?). I said, I did have public newspapers and magazines in here. ?
I really have no idea what substance they found, and they wouldn’t tell me anything.
I got the full body pat-down, etc.
I actually missed my flight because of this. But the United clerk at O’Hare could see what was going on and put me on a later flight.
Funny, though, the politicians who created the TSA probably don’t have to endure all of this.
