Exactly. Remember 2006-2009? "Republican party is dead. This is the end. Etc"

So long as the country is in a two-party system, it benefits greatest from two strong, well-balanced parties. The massive swings of the past decade aren't good at a national level. Obama's swing to the far left in 2009 was catastrophic for the country. Trump's swing in 2017 - while positive in the short run to help undo some of the damage done by his predecessors - will be equally catastrophic if allowed to continue unchecked. Politicians *always* overreach, sure as the sun will come up, and all of the paeans being sung on FR about Trump's administration will be much quieter, come 2022 or so.

'Tis why I like Pence, so far. Calm, professional, and conservative. We're in the middle of a hurricane right now, and while Trump is a good man to get us through it, we'll need someone like Pence to take the wheel when it's over and maintain the gains made by Trump's administration.

I agree. The best of our leaders, like the worst, have power on only a temporary basis. Some of their legacy lives on through their federal court appointments, but after that it is hard work. As we learned with Reagan, if you don’t pick the right guy as your Veep (or some other natural successor), most of what you do turns to garbage pretty quickly. I remember Reagan vividly...but he wouldn’t recognize this country under Obama.

Trump should restore a lot that we’ve lost, but it is up to US to keep electing people like him to run things. If he is right, and I both think that he is and pray that he is, then he is merely a messenger for a movement among the people to restore government to its rightful place in our society - as a SERVANT of the people, NOT its master. But it IS up to us - we first have to complete the regionalization of the Dems, but simultaneously decimate the ranks of the Republican insiders/RINOs - people who might as well be Dems except for the letter after their name and a bit more fiscal conservatism. People like Collins, McCain, Grahamnesty, Bob Corker, John Cornyn (my guy, who becomes conservative every 6th year, much like a locust emerging from the ground to breed).

NEVER rest on your laurels - we did that after Reagan, and we got Clinton shortly thereafter, followed by RINO Bush and then the anti-American utter disaster who must not be named. ALWAYS play like you’re behind, and never forget the nature of politics and politicians (which is, in both cases, to rule over people).

Politicians *always* overreach...

Another reason to demand TERM LIMITS and an end to the professional politician. I think it was Mark Twain who said that politicians, like diapers, need to be changed frequently, for the same reason.
