Trump's Senate Saboteurs (Republicans to blame for only 17 of 1242 appointments)
American Thinker ^ | March 3, 2017 | Fran Fawcett Peterson

The Republican-controlled Senate is to blame for only 17 Trump confirmations so far.  Trump has 1242 more needing Senate approval, or the number may be as low as 500, it's hard to pin down.  Republicans are to blame because they are in the majority and thus in control of the schedule.  Given the Senate’s vacation schedule, officially “state work period,” there is an almost impossibility of Trump getting all 1242 appointees confirmed in four years even if they worked round the clock.  If the figure is only 500 appointees it would take nearly two years of round-the-clock work.

With a few exceptions, most of those needing Senate approval must first go through committee hearings.  “Most,” because in 2011, during the Obama administration, a bill was passed allowing some appointees an expedited confirmation process. It allows them to skip the committee hearing.  Are Republicans availing themselves of this tactic?

By rules, Democrats can request 30 hours of debate for any appointee. 1242 appointees times 30 hours = 37,260 hours of debate.  There are only 8,760 hours in a year. So if my math is correct it will take over four years to confirm all the appointees if the Democrats request their 30 hours for each, and nearly two years for 500 appointees.

“Probably don’t even need 90% of them.”

Probably true but in the meantime the jobs are held by Obama holdovers.

One could only conclude that the Republicans are in collusion with the Democrats.

Trump inherited Obama's Republicans, which makes his job that much more difficult.

Unfortunately, the President's discovering he doesn't have much help with idiots like this rogues gallery on the Hill:

Can't fire govies. Political appointees, yes. Federal hires, nope.

You've got a chance with Ryan next year, since Congressmen only serve two years. However, thanks to the Kentucky voters, Mitch was re-elected in 2014, so we're stuck with him until 2020.

Trump could return the favor by being too busy to fundraise for obstructionist slime bags and cowards

I certainly hope he does that. I'd go even one step closer: come to their states when the time comes and (assuming they have viable ones) openly campaign for their primary challengers.

Allen West now lives in Texas.

Both he and his wife have family in The Lone Star State.

Allen West would be a great replacement for Cornyn.

I remember reading before the inauguration that Obama had a huge number of his appointees in the various agencies hired as permanent workers.

Once he's got his Cabinet fully in place, they could all be reassigned to documenting the number of vomiting warthogs in Lower Slobbovia.

If you have an 'R' senator or two, time to start putting some heat on them. I don't, but I do have an 'R' rep and have registered my displeasure with their performance so far. Time to start making these pricks feel some heat.

I don’t recall West being a big supporter of Trump. Regardless, Cornyn needs to go, has for years. He is a big stumbling block on the immigration issue.

I used to call them the most dangerous body of men and women on the face of the earth.

That is exactly why the 17th needs to be abolished. It would almost guarantee us a supermajority in the Senate, considering todays make-up in the State's chambers.

Hard to win unless you have loyal people in positions of importance. It is beginning to show. There is an obvious establishment movement to undermine the will of the American electorate.

I've been witness to this for more than 40 years. Nothing has since changed, except that I have grown older.
