IIRC, it is Lucas, the inventor of darkness.

When I lived on base at Subic Bay, they had to limit the liberty party to accommodate the Enterprise et al.

Olongopo simply didn’t have enough whores to service all the force at one time

After owning...
A....1953 MGTD
B....1963 Austin Healy 3000
C....1975 Triumph TR-6

Those are not jokes....They’re reality
( I know I should have learned my lesson with the MGTD )

Thanks. I think I found them to the right of that white ovoid building?; the black hulled Warrior and to its right, A visible Victory with its three masts, sails unfurled. All’s right with the world again.

I can’t actually pick Victory myself on the small image posted, although I know her location. Warrior is visible but not that easy to see.

But I’ve found a larger version of the same picture online:

http://www.thinkdefence.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/QE-Carrier-Portsmouth.jpg

In the larger picture, Warrior is quite easy to see, black hulled with orange funnels just to the left of the Spinnaker Tower (which is the very obvious tower building). And if you go straight up from Warrior’s stern, you can see reasonably clearly as dark thin triangles in front of a whitish building, the tops of two of Victory’s masts (the lower masts and the entire third mast are visible but harder to see against the darker buildings. I’d have had a hard time finding Victory even in the larger picture if I didn’t already know where she was.

The aft island is for flight ops, the forward one for ship functions - but each island can handle both set of operations if necessary, creating a useful redundancy in an emergency.

There are a number of reasons for the two island design. The aft island does give a better view for flight operations than a single central island would, especially given VSTOL and helicopter operations (you are correct that part of the bow is not directly visible from the aft island, but the ski jump is and the blind spot is well covered by cameras). The two island design also provides a better wind flow pattern across the deck making for safer, lest fluky operations. It breaks up the radar cross section of the ship in a way that make a considerable improvement to her radar cross section (she’s certainly not a stealth ship but especially at range, the difference is significant) and each island also houses the ventilation systems necessary due to the conventional (non-nuclear) power plants.

The proof of the pudding will be seen when the ships are in service. Until that happens, nobody can really say for sure if the design is truly a good one. But it hasn’t just come from nowhere - the decisions behind how she is put together have been made for very particular reasons.

Back when I was kid, right after the dinosaurs died:-) (1964 m/l), there was guy about a block over that had what looked like a MGTD mostly under a tarp, was still there in 1971 when I went off to be a learned student at the College. Do not know what happened to it.

I was going to get a 1969 MG about 1973 but one of my friends clued me into the perils of an MG, lucky me, eh?

No matter how much a pain in the a$$ British electrics were, the design is what kept me from going back.....you gotta admit the the MGTD and the Austin were pure art

British sport cars did have a certain appeal back then, that is for sure.

The one British car I would really loved to have had was a Triumph Spitfire painted up in Battle of Britain Camo circa 1970.

I remember seeing this add, or one very similar in either Time or Newsweek while in High School and going Wooow!

And note the price!

Those were the days, eh?

Off to work:-(

The after island manages the aircraft, flight ops really only needs to see aircraft on approach. Once takeoff aircraft have wheels release, they can manage the rest on their own.

On another matter, how do they con a Ford class carrier?

Thanks again. The larger picture helped. I haven’t been there since the ‘90’s. I found Warrior also Victory’s masts. The perspective is a bit funny and the masts look taller than they perhaps should be. They are, however, where the map says they should be. Nice memories and great fun. Friends who’ve been there more recently say it’s become a favorite field trip and is generally inundated by visiting groups of school children.
